The Problem with Pokemon

Pokemon games have sold incredibly well since it started in 1996. With a lot of success comes a lot of people telling the creator that they're doing it wrong. Let's find out what's wrong with Pokemon.

The recent leak of the "Let's Go" games has a lot of people annoyed. Not so much because of the awkward name, but because it's another trip to the Kanto region. Personally I feel mixed. On one hand I like the idea of going back to Kanto in a more modern game, on the other hand I enjoy a good angry mob.

Regardless of how sick a person I am, I do enjoy Kanto, and would love to see it modernized. It's important to keep in mind that the Pokemon series has changed a lot since the previous Kanto remakes. As someone who recently replayed Leaf Green, it wasn't all that easy to strategize, but it also wasn't all that needed.

Another common complaint is how easy the Pokemon games have gotten. A lot of people were also stupid as children and got a bunch of terrible Pokemon on their team and lacked the patience to train their Pokemon before fighting a gym, which resulted in them losing the battle, which gives the illusion of difficulty. All that to say this; Red and Blue are the easiest games in the series. You don't need to grind very much, and every Pokemon is viable. Pokemon has gotten easier than Black and White, but those games are annoyingly difficult.

And that's the problem. Everything I just said is the problem with Pokemon. I don't like hard Pokemon games, but some people do. I enjoy the idea of revisiting Kanto, but many people don't. The problem is that balancing your games around both strong opinions will only result in people being angry. The vocal people think they know what's best, but the majority of Pokemon fans aren't in Reddit complaining that the game isn't precisely what they want, they're waiting patiently for whatever the next Pokemon games are.

And this isn't to say that people should stop criticising Pokemon games. It's to say, realize that you don't speak for the entirety of the fanbase. Let other people speak their mind without getting defensive about them disagreeing.
