Thoughts on 2019's RUMORED Switch Model

It was potentially leaked that Nintendo will be releasing a new model of the Switch possibly as early as summer of 2019. This is being inaccurately described by some as a "Switch Pro" but that term isn't used anywhere in the original article. And I personally don't think we're going to see a "Switch Pro" in 2019.

The unfortunate thing about the rumor is that the only thing adding any credibility is the source, that being The Wall Street Journal. No sources are mentioned directly, no pictures are shared, no name is shared, and there really aren't any details about what the new model has. It's all talking about the potential for better screens. If a random gaming blog posted about it we wouldn't be talking about it, but when The Wall Street Journal says something baseless it's suddenly news.

My theory is, and has been, that Nintendo will be releasing a smaller, more portable, and more affordable model of the Switch prior to a core Pokemon game. Pokemon Let's Go is clearly meant for one copy per family, as co-op is heavily advertised, and I'm willing to bet that the 2019 Pokemon game will be far more similar to the multiplayer and gameplay styles of Sun/Moon, X/Y, Black/White, etc.

I think 2019 will bring the 2DS version of the Switch. A cheaper and more durable model that only serves the purpose of being cheaper. The Switch is $300 at the cheapest without going pre-owned or refurbished. That's incredibly expensive when you start talking about having 2 or more per household. I also don't know how they could put better specs in the same size without bumping the price up massively, and as much as I enjoy the Switch, it can't take on the iPad.
